I don't see how you can rate this year's team as not competitive since they have road wins at Penn State and Tennessee. This would have be unthinkable in years past - even this year as HokieFan5 bet his posting life on it and lost.

The overall team quality seems to be trending positive - they look to have more ACC caliber talent than in past years. This year's record will be the best in the last five years and this is the first year that all of the players belong to Coach Wolff.

The next two games will be critical in determining whether this team is a middle of the road ACC team or a bottom feeder. Only time will tell if Coach Wolff can get the team into the upper half of the ACC, but I think being patient with him is better than churning coaches every few years which is a recipe for continued mega-losing.
